Tajwid (Arabic: تجويد, translit. tajwīd‎) literally means doing something beautifully or well. Tajwid comes from the Arabic word jawwada (جوّد-يجوّد-تجويدا). In the science of Qiraah, tajwid means articulating letters from their proper places by giving them their respective characteristics. Thus, the science of tajwid is a study of how to pronounce the letters found in the holy book of the Quran correctly and excellently.
